Study after study shows that smartphones and the social media world they open are profoundly transforming childhood.
From rising anxiety and shrinking attention spans to disrupted sleep and changing social dynamics, the effects are real, measurable, and growing.

Most kids now get their first smartphone around age 11, and nearly two-thirds have one by 10 or younger.

🔎 A large 2025 JAMA study following 4,285 U.S. children found that kids who begin using smartphones and social media earlier are much more likely to develop addictive use patterns by age 11. These patterns were directly linked to 2–3 times higher risks of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, as well as increased anxiety, depression, and behavioral problems. (READ MORE)
